Google News: Article Grouping
When Googlebot passed the article's content back to Google News, there's nothing known about which section should the article land in, which local version of Google News to show the article in or what's the location of the reported news event. These are all decided on Google's end by a computer program, an algorithm.
It can be quite easy to decide in which section should an article go in as each section has its own jargon. Say, if an article contains loads of words like "stock market", "shareholder", "Wall Street", "exchange", it's very likely that the article should go in the "Business" section.
If in an article the words "United States", "Washington", "District Of Columbia" are used prominently then it's likely the article reports something from Washington D.C, USA thus it's very likely that the correct Google News edition for the article is the US edition of Google News (http://news.google.com).
